John Mauchly was born August 30, 1907, in Cincinnati, Ohio, though he was raised in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Mauchly attended Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, Maryland. Mauchly recieved his Ph.D. in physics in 1932. In 1940, Mauchly taught physics at Ursinus College in Philadelphia. In 1941, he attended a training course in electronics taught by John Presper Eckert at the Moore School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. On June 13, 1941, Mauchly visited John Atanasoff to see the ABC. Mauchly took notes on the ABC and later used these on the ENIAC.
